South Africa’s warm hospitality
In February, we sent a group of 25 students and apprentices from HRUC to Gqeberha in South Africa, for placements in Childcare, Sports coaching, Uniformed Services and Business Administration with United Through Sport, out partner in South Africa.
Student feedback from the trip was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of learners reporting that the placements had exceeded their expectations. They gained hands on experience which allowed them to immerse themselves in the South African culture and traditions.
The experience helped participants build confidence, resilience and adaptability. They learned to communicate effectively, work as a team, and handle challenges which contributed to their overall personal development.

“Amazing experiences outside the classroom”
Liam Plumridge, Assistant Director: Enhanced Skills and Employability, shared some of this thoughts.
‘It was such a honour to go back to this beautiful country to watch our incredible students participate in the most incredible placements in the townships whilst being away from their normality. Our young people had the most amazing experiences outside of the classroom.’
