During our recent visit Porto we had the chance to visit some inspiring Creatives placements.
Our local partner, Squared Circle, has established a range of placements in the Creatives sector. There are many small studios and ateliers, where students can gain hands on experience in industries such as ceramics and textiles. We enjoyed exploring the city, famed for its coloured buildings, cobbled streets and multiple bridges spanning the river Douro. It is built on hills that descend towards the river, offering numerous incredible view points of the city.
First hand experience in thriving Creatives businesses
Placement hosts showed us round their studios, and talked about their work, and how interns have supported them. One project was a miniature showcase of the famous landmarks of Porto, created in clay as part of a community exhibition for the festival of Sao Joao.
Another host organisation shared their tableware collection that has been developed for commercial sales. The intern shared their learning about textiles production and insights into setting up a business in the sector.
We appreciated the warm hospitality we were shown in Porto. It was a real treat to explore the city, sample the delicious local foods and take in the wonderful sites and weather. We have no doubt that the students will be truly inspired by their upcoming work placements.
