I would encourage future participants to embrace the Turing trip. Make sure they have fun, take work seriously, enjoy every bit of it, make friends, be nice to people and leave a mark of remembrance.
The motivation
I’ve never travelled outside the UK or even independently. I wanted to try work experience, and work towards my Mandatory placement. Also, I wanted to travel with my friends.
The placement
Although it wasn’t peak season, we still had some work to do. We cleaned the bikes and made sure they were ready for rental. I personally learned a lot about contracting, bike maintenance and customer relations. Companies that are set to run services depend greatly on their customers. Businesses run on credibility and my job gave me the chance to learn about competence.
The location
One thing that stood out to me was the people- cheerful, welcoming and always eager to strike up a conversation. Even our employees were friendly, as well as the customers who came to the shops. Also, the streets were lit up with greens and oranges everywhere. It looked absolutely amazing

The impact
The placement actually gave me insight into what’s out there in the world, what I am expected to do, and how to relate to other workers, whether fellow employers or employees. We also had to develop good relationship skills such as tolerating customers, engaging them and assisting them.
