The motivation
I thought it would be a great learning experience and an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the IT industry. I also thought it would be a great experience for what university would feel like, in terms of independent living and self-study.
The placement
I worked at an online marketing company which owns some publishing houses. I worked on promoting a new website and publication project, Improovio.
My tasks were to boost posts using the Facebook business manager tool to promote ‘First Class Publishing’ or write Facebook posts to promote a new article on Improovio. I also did proof reading for the affiliate program.
I worked with a marketing automation software package called Marketo. In this I created newsletters, smart campaigns, smart lists, databases. I used the business manager tool to extend the lifetime of a post by increasing the budget and end date.
The location
The weather was beautiful in Prague, although it sometimes rained. Prague is a great city, with beautiful parks and places to visit, such as Wenceslas Square. The people in Prague were extremely kind and hospitable.
The impact
Getting to see how the industry works with international customers was a great experience. My biggest learning experience was how it feels to work in the IT industry and learning to use software such as Marketo to make day to day tasks easier.
My placement will help me in the future: I now have experience of working in the IT industry and with international customers who do not speak the same language. I learnt how to juggle different projects at once.
