The placement
My main tasks included market research, data collection and input, emailing and phoning UK companies, creating showcase invitations and representing UK companies at the embassy.
I was fortunate to attend a showcase at the British embassy in Prague, where Czech distributors were able to meet hair, beauty and care businesses from the UK. My role was to represent businesses that did not attend in person but had sent over some samples and information and attract attention from the Czech companies. The building was beautiful and I enjoyed having to use my sales skills whilst working with a brilliant team of people.
The location
Prague is a vibrant, historic and beautiful city and there is always lots to do. This was my first time away from home and I wanted to relish every moment of it. I was happy just walking down the streets observing each building with its own unique history, and wining and dining in the sun. I learnt that if you have the confidence, anyone can be your friend.
The impact
I have observed and understood the importance of international trade. I have learnt how businesses in different countries communicate with one another. I have learnt multiple methods to conduct market research and how to present myself in a professional environment.
On a personal level, I have become more independent. Having to navigate an unknown setting and language was challenging at times, but it has solidified my desire to work in business in an international setting. I have improved my communication skills amongst groups of different people.
