The motivation
I applied for my placement because I wanted to see what real independence felt like and experience life as a real adult before going off to University. I was encouraged by my parents and teachers who thought it would be a great experience for me. I prepared myself by reading up on how to get around the city, learning about what the country had to offer and researching historic facts.
The placement
During my work placement, I was required to make a mix of different songs using software like Logic Pro. Although I was already familiar with Logic Pro, I got the opportunity to learn how to use the software to shorten songs, compile tracks together and synchronise them with a video, which I’d never done before.
The location
Barcelona was absolutely beautiful! There were so many historical landmarks, great beaches and stunning views from the cable car rides. I loved walking through the Gothic Quarter and was amazed by all the Gaudi architecture in the city. The local people were also really nice and really understanding, particularly towards people that didn’t speak much Spanish. The food was incredible and I loved getting food from the bakery!
The impact
Since going on my placement, I’ve seen a huge improvement in my time management skills and I’ve also become more confident in communicating with others. I also now have some great practical experience in the music field that I think will stand out with employers in the future.
Going on my Erasmus+ placement has further solidified my interest in music so after college, I plan on going to University and pursuing a degree in music. Anyone thinking about participating in the Erasmus project should definitely go for it! It’s an amazing experience full of excitement and you’ll get to share that euphoria with a great group of people.
