My placement allowed me to experience life outside my comfort zone, showing my ability to adapt to new environments and situations.
The motivation
I’ve never been outside of the UK or travelled independently, so I saw this as a great opportunity to develop myself for a working environment along with the ability to experience life outside the UK.
The placement
In Valencia Kosi worked in a bike repair shop:
I spoke with customers about our store’s policies and prices. I managed and mended bicycles, repairing and replacing parts along with testing. I floated around different roles allowing me to gain an understanding of all the roles within my placement. This allowed me to experience working at the front of the store and the back. I learnt how to manage myself without relying on anyone else, which is what I was used to up to this point.
The location
The people were very friendly and helpful, different from what I was used to in the UK along with the sights and weather. Our hosts were extremely helpful and patient making it easy for us to settle in to Valencia.
The impact
The taste of how a business function allowed me to understand just how businesses run and what it takes to integrate myself into one in the future. I’m still studying my engineering T-level but in the future I hope to find another work environment to further my experience in becoming an engineer
