My placement has given me an eye-opening look into working with all kinds of children and working in a cooperative effort with other members of staff.
The motivation
I wanted to discover the differences and similarities between day care settings in and outside of the UK.
Despite years of experience working with children, I have a lack of experience with disabled children and those with learning difficulties. It is something I have been wanting to learn about for a very long time.
The placement
My work placement was incredible. The day care setting accommodated and facilitated the children fantastically. I genuinely don’t think I have seen a day care quite like it in my life.
The staff are great at their job and are a credit to the profession. The children are safe, respected and always cared for. I have the highest respect for them and am grateful for the opportunity I was given to work alongside them.
My tasks included feeding the children at snack time and sitting with them while they ate their lunch. I played with the children during various activities and helped them put on their raincoats, sunhats and boots and manual handling of equipment like sprinkler pools.
The location
I enjoyed experiencing a new country for the first time and I especially enjoyed travelling around various locations on my own. It was fascinating to see and experience new things like sky trains and discovering the campus.
The impact
My placement has given me an eye-opening look into working with all kinds of children and working in a cooperative effort with other members of staff. It’s the first time I have worked with a charity/non-profit for a long period of time which is such a humbling experience.
This placement will help me professionally in the future as my career will predominantly be surrounding children and childcare.
My future is one full of new opportunities including taking on a new job in the next month, which is the first step in my career to becoming a childcare professional. I’m excited to receive my results regarding my course and look forward to my life post-education.
