The placement
My placement has helped me develop a strong taste for marketing and administration. My role was more connected to the management side of marketing than to the advertising aspect. It was deeply enlightening to learn about the practical side of a marketing role and has helped to inform my area of interest for the future.
The learning
My placement helped me to develop autonomy, by having assigned tasks and having to finish them on my own by following instructions already given.
I developed my time management skills as I had several tasks to complete and a deadline and was responsible for organising my time so I could finish the all tasks on time.
The experience helped me to develop networking skills, and understand the importance of networking. I was asked to help organise and attend a busy event and make conversations with professionals.
The impact
Since returning from my placement, I have been inspired to further my organisational skills, leadership skills and professionalism, through my position as a member of my school’s voluntary team. This involves planning events and fundraising campaigns, to bring awareness and aid in the eradication of issues which include elderly solitude, poverty and hunger, illness and lack of medical supplies and illiteracy.
My placement helped me to enhance my analytical skills. I have learned to identify my strengths and weaknesses and find opportunities to improve my strengths. I have also learned how to take constructive criticism and use it to work on my weaknesses to turn them into strengths.
