The motivation
I was very excited to get the opportunity to go to Reunion, it looked like a very beautiful place and I wanted to improve my French and get some good work experience.
The placement
My work placement looked really nice and I had spoken to the team at Ici & Ailleurs on Skype several times so I had a good idea of what to expect.
I loved my placement at Delisle because the staff were so friendly and welcoming and I was involved in lots of different tasks which meant I learnt a lot and didn’t get bored.
The location
I stayed with a host family and also met loads of people from Germany and Spain who were on placements as well. I have made some really good friends during my mobility and we’ll keep in touch – I want to make sure that I maintain my French and I hope to visit Reunion again one day.
I enjoyed doing excursions on the island, hiking and seeing the mountains, but my favourite activity was going and sitting on the beach to watch the sunset in the evenings, after a hard days work.
The impact
This was a once in a life time opportunity to work in a beautiful, exotic location, far away from home. I had all the support I needed from the friends I made and my host family, so I didn’t feel homesick.
It’s given me the confidence to apply for jobs travel and tourism jobs outside of the UK, which has always been my dream.
