“This was my first time travelling abroad. I wish that everyone could have this opportunity. I would definitely recommend it to others. My advice would be to learn and experience as much as you can. Don’t waste any time as this experience will change your life.”
I applied for my Erasmus+ work placement as part of my level 3 Hospitality course. It was my first time travelling abroad and l was looking forward to experiencing daily life in another country.
My role was front of house in a beautiful restaurant called El Disparate, which was in the heart of a square and had a hotel upstairs. I had the chance to meet people from all over the world.
My duties included serving breakfast for customers and my coffee-making skills have definitely improved.
My Spanish colleagues were really helpful and would use body language and gestures to assist me. They welcomed me and made me feel like part of a family. It was challenging as I did not speak Spanish but I developed my communication skills through interactions.
I would recommend learning some key phrases, greetings and answers before travelling.
Seville was beautiful, with lots of places to visit and see. My favourite place was the Metropol Parasol also known as “The Mushroom”. I visited a couple of times, to walk around the platform and see the view and the sunset.
After completing my college course, I would like to work full-time in the food industry which my Erasmus+ work placement will help me to apply for. I am now also thinking about working abroad again as this experience has greatly improved my confidence! I am looking forward to my next adventure and seeing what I will become.
I wish that everyone could have the opportunity to experience what I did. I would definitely recommend it to others. Learn and experience as much as you can and don’t waste any time as it will change your life.
