The motivation
I applied for my placement because I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet new people, experience a new culture and gain experience in plumbing. I was encouraged by my tutors as they said it would be a good experience. I prepared myself by researching about the local culture and tried to learn some Spanish before arriving in Spain so communication with my employer would be easier.
The placement
My work placement was a Construction company in the town of Lebrija, near Seville. At my work placement we were delivering tools and materials to customers. We would use fork lifts to move materials into the lorry ready for delivery. Through my placement I learnt a lot about construction and the materials used. I also gained a lot of confidence as I had to be independent during the trip.
The location
The people in Seville were very nice and friendly. Also there were many nice restaurants to eat in. The weather there was also very nice which made the trip more enjoyable.
The impact
Through this experience I was able to gain construction experience and knowledge by delivering materials to sites where I was able to observe many different trades.
My advice for future participants is to stay focused and professional at their work placement. After work they should go out and enjoy and experience the new culture.
