The motivation

I applied for the Erasmus+ placement because I wanted to gain new experiences that could help me with my future career and to learn new skills in a different country. I wanted to see if I can meet and face new challenges abroad, it has helped me mature within the career field.

The placement

My placement was in a nursery. My main duty was to maintain and organise clean, tidy and child-friendly environments. I was involved in activities such as reading, outdoor activities, crafts and cooking. A task that I had to provide everyday was feeding suitable meals, snacks and drinks.

Being at the nursery has taught me the importance of teaching a child general skills; such as basic hygiene and manners. I have learnt how to provide care for children for them to develop socially, physically and emotionally through familiar routines like educational play and other activities.

The location

What I liked best about Portugal was that the people were friendly and always made sure that everybody felt comfortable. Food was the second-best part, I had the chance to eat seafood almost every day which I enjoyed as they provided a healthy portion for us.

The impact

This placement has offered me the best experience I could have had abroad. I was faced with many challenges such as a language barrier, however it has helped me think of another way of interacting with them.

This will look good on my CV when I apply for a job within this professional field. Working in my placement, in an actual workplace, has helped me realise that I have a different style of learning.

My next step is going to University and studying the development of children. I can say that Erasmus project has helped me decide what I really want to do in the future.
