Our participants will travel to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), on the Eastern Cape coast in South Africa.

They will have the chance to immerse themselves into the culture and beauty that South Africa has to offer while supporting a local community.

Our partners

Our host partner in South Africa is United Through Sport.

Participants will undertake placements in schools and pre-schools in the local community. They will be delivering multi-sport community coaching sessions in a range of sports including rugby, cricket, netball, football, basketball, tennis and swim teaching.

Childcare and teaching students will be working with children in an Early Childhood Development centre.

During free time, participants can get involved in cultural and adventure activities to experience and enjoy wider aspects of local South African life. This will include visits to beaches and a wildlife park.

Participants stay in secure, shared accommodation which has been sourced by our partners. Entertainment facilities include a games room and swimming pool onsite. Hot meals will be provided at the accommodation.

Private transport is organised to take participants to local schools and pre-schools.

Student testimonials

  • I developed skills such as confidence, leadership, problem solving, creativity and independence. I learnt to use my initiative and creativity to develop coaching sessions with limited resources.

    Alex, Sports student, St Lucia
  • In my placement, I have been helping the women’s national team in rugby. It has allowed me to share my knowledge of the game, and also learn from them about how they do things differently to us back home.

    Mollie, Sports placement, St Lucia
